Members of the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee traveled to Montreal on Monday June 5th to participate in the Canadian Environment Awards Gala at the Montreal Science Centre. Held during Environment Week 2007, the Canadian Environment Awards celebrates the commitment of Canadians who are helping to protect, preserve and restore the country's environment. 18 finalist groups were chosen from 120 nominations received from all over Canada and the gold and silver awards for each category were announced at the awards gala on Monday night.
The Junction
Creek Stewardship Committee was one of three finalists in the category of Restoration
and Rehabilitation, along with Tree Canada from Ottawa, ON and the Nile Creek
Enhancement Society from Bowser, BC. That evening, the Junction Creek Stewardship
Committee received a silver award and a cheque for $2500 that will help the
group continue their restoration efforts.
The Canadian Environment Awards is a partnership among Canadian Geographic Enterprises, the Government of Canada and Shell Canada. The Canadian Environment Awards 2007 is supported by 14 Canadian corporations. Shell Canada sponsors the Community Awards.
